Brazilian States fo Climate Action - Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week 2019

In partnership with ICLEI and ABEMA, the Centro Brasil no Clima hosted a side event at Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week. The objective was to discuss the involvement of Brazilian states and local governments of major cities in the adaptation and mitigation actions, which are fundamental to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The event “Brazilian States for Climate Action” had the presence of the former Environment Minister and current Environment Secretary of Brasilia, Sarney Filho, and the online participation of the Governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande.
One of the topics was how subnational governments could contribute to the Brazilian Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). The discussion also talked about ongoing experiences and how to establish direct international funding channels. Another subject was the role of governors in climate governance, as well as encouraging entrepreneurship and the social outcomes that can result from these policies and projects.
