The Climate Reality Project is a global organization founded by the Nobel Peace Prize Al Gore. Since 2006 it has trained more than 9,000 climate leaders from more than 120 countries, thus creating a global network that influences public opinion and decision makers in both businesses and governments.

In 2016, the CBC designed and launched, in partnership with “SOS Mata Atlântica”, a campaign known as Ratify Now! (“Ratifica já!”), which had the objective of ratifying theParis Agreement by the National Congress and the President in the record time of two months. As a result Brazil became the first country to ratify the agreement.

The Executive Director of the Brazilian Climate Center (CBC), Alfredo Sirkis, was appointed on October 28th 2016, as the Executive Coordinator of the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC), a forum for both civil society and the public sector.

There is a forecast that the necessary measures for Brazil to become a carbon neutral country - with zero emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) - will happen by the year 2060. The study “Brazil Carbon Zero 2060” was presented to the President in December 2018 and covers mitigation, adaptation and a long term vision.

The COP 21 or the Paris Climate Conference led to a new international climate agreement known as the Paris agreement, applicable to all countries, aiming to keep global warming below 2°C. Brazil became the first country to ratify that agreement, a position that strengthened the country’s role in international climate negotiations.

The Initial Proposal for the Implementation of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by Brazil was presented in 2018, as an input for the elaboration of a Brazilian NDC- which main objective is to deliver the climatic conditions assumed internationally by the country up to 2030. In 2018, the CBC also handed to President Michel Temer the document entitled "Climate Change, Risks and Opportunities", gathering strategic information on both risks and opportunities that climate change represents to Brazil in the current scenario. Brazil has submitted to the UNFCCC, in the COP 20, in Lima, in 2014, a proposal to recognize “the social and economic value of emissions reduction and the need to consider them as units of convertible financial value.” Know more about the work of CBC on Positive pricing of carbon reduction.
